GE GFD35ESSYWW Repair

Press Start on a white electric GE dryer and hear nothing, and the answer is usually in the outlet, the breaker or the door rather than in the drum.

About this model

Model overview

Silent when you press Start

A dryer that gives no sound at all usually has a power or door problem. The GFD35ESSYWW is a white (WW) GE electric dryer; the E after the 35 means electric, and GE lists the drum at 7.8 cu ft. GFD is the prefix for dryers that go alongside front-load washers. It is a current model.

An order of checks that costs nothing

  1. Is the dryer plugged in all the way? Pushing the washer back can tug a cord loose.
  2. Look at the panel in your home: electric dryers often use a breaker with two switches joined together. If one half tripped, the dryer may light up but not heat or turn.
  3. Close the door firmly. A door held open by a sock or by a bulky item does not complete the start circuit.
  4. Press and hold Start for a moment if the control expects it.
  5. Try a short cycle with a few damp items; a large heavy load can stall a drum.

Do not use any extension cord or adapter, and never open the cabinet to test wiring.

Turns, but no heat

This is a different complaint. On an electric dryer the half-tripped breaker is a classic reason: the drum motor runs on one part of the supply while the heater needs the other. Reset the breaker once and test. If heat is still absent, the vent is the next check, covered in the vent care post. After both are clear, an internal part is the likely cause.

A burnt smell or a very hot cabinet

Stop, unplug, and read the overheating post.

Electric or gas, again

This one is electric, which means no gas line. Confirm on the label if you are unsure; this label guide helps, and the gas-versus-electric post explains the difference.

When you book

Tell us what happens when you press Start (silence, a hum, a click), whether the breaker has been reset and what the outlet looks like. Our visit starts with diagnosis, then a written price, and nothing proceeds until you say go. Pages: GE Dryer Repair, GE Dryers.
