About this model

Model overview

Why the 27-inch size matters

The JKP70BMBB belongs to the JK group, the 27-inch wall ovens in GE’s scheme. Many older Bay Area kitchens, especially remodeled Victorians and mid-century bungalows, have a 27-inch opening because that was the size when the cabinets were built. Replacing a 27-inch oven with a 30-inch model means cutting cabinetry, so owners often choose to repair. Our repair-or-replace post explains the thinking without pricing.

The BB ending is the black finish. Read the 70 as a feature level rather than a size; the width is already settled by the JK.

What to look at before you call

  1. Is the display lit? If not, check the breaker for the oven’s circuit.
  2. If lit, is there a code? Photograph it.
  3. Does the door close flat against the frame all the way around? A bent hinge or food residue at the gasket can keep it from sealing.
  4. Is the problem only when using one function, such as broil or convection? Name it.

Codes tied to this kind of oven

Wall ovens with electronic controls share the range F-code list. F1, F6 and F7 point to the keypanel; F3 and F4 to the oven sensor; F9 and FC to the lock circuit; F5 and F8 to the control. The owner instruction in every one of those entries is the same: call a trained service technician. Our code pages for F6, F4 and FC give each in detail.

What not to attempt

Do not remove the oven from the cabinet, take off the trim, or reach into the cavity while it is warm. If the oven smells of burning with nothing inside, turn it off and let it cool.

When you are ready, see GE wall oven repair and the wall ovens guide. Visits end with a written estimate and no repair before your approval.
