A black, 30-inch gas GE range. We inspect it where it stands, explain what failed, and give you the estimate in writing before touching anything.
With the GGF500PVBB the rule is simple. Owners read the display, check that the range has power, and wipe cool surfaces. Everything near the gas supply, including burner ports, valves and the flexible connector behind the range, is left alone. A gas smell means leaving the home and calling the gas utility, as described in our post on gas smells near a GE range.
GE’s product list gives this as a gas range, 30 inches wide, under the GE name. Black is the BB finish; GE also lists the same range in slate, stainless and white. The 500 in the number is a feature-pack level above the 400 of its sibling the GGF400PVBB, which suggests more features, though the product list does not spell them out.
Spills near a burner are the usual reason lighting becomes unreliable. Clean what you can reach once cool, and if one burner stays dark, tell us which. Our post on clicking burners lists useful details to note.
If baking takes much longer than it used to, the oven’s temperature sensing is a candidate, along with ignition. GE documents F3 and F4 as oven sensor faults, and F2 as an overtemperature event of unknown cause. See F4 and F2 / F20.
Keypanel faults are F0, F1, F6 and F7 in GE’s list. The advice is to call a trained service technician, and a page like F6 shows the wording.
Gas ranges in older San Francisco buildings are often tucked into alcoves with little clearance. Tell us if access is tight, and if the building has rules for service visits, such as elevator booking or parking for a van. In Peninsula and East Bay homes with island layouts, say if the range sits on a platform or a tile surround.
Our process for range repair is the same for every model: diagnose, estimate in writing, repair on approval. For wider context see GE ranges.
Model-information disclaimer. Confirm your exact model number and specifications with your appliance documentation before booking a repair. Model pages are for identification and compatibility reference.
The higher number means a higher feature-pack level in GE numbering. The product list does not detail which features differ.
We advise against it. Burner and gas parts should be handled by a technician.
Burners and oven are separate systems, so they can fail separately. A diagnosis finds which one needs attention.
