Quick answers before you book

Nothing works at all? Look at the breaker for the range and at the plug. Display lit but no heat? Read any code on the screen and note it. Smell of burning plastic? Turn the range off and leave it off. Those three cover a lot of GRF400SVSS calls, and none of them needs a tool.

Where this range sits

GE lists the GRF400SVSS as a current 30-inch electric range, with SS marking stainless. The 400 is a lower feature-pack number than the 500-level ranges GE also lists, so expect a simpler set of cooking features. We stick to that reading because the number scheme only says higher means more features, not which ones. GE lists black and white versions of this range as well.

Faults an electric range develops

  • The oven will not come up to heat. Often related to the sensor or the bake circuit. See our post on a slow-to-preheat oven.
  • A surface area does nothing. Localized to that area until a technician says otherwise.
  • The door will not unlatch. The latch and lock circuit; F9 and FC are the codes for it, and our F9 and FC pages cover them.
  • Fan noise or a fan that will not stop. Could be the cooling fan; F350 is the code GE assigns to an upper cooling fan circuit issue or fan obstruction. See F350.

Power outages and resets

After an outage, an electronic range may come back with a blinking clock and need its clock set before it cooks normally. That is a normal event, not a fault. If instead an F-code appears after power returns, write it down and do not keep restarting the range; GE’s guidance for such codes is to call a trained service technician.
