CI: check the icemaker
The icemaker may not be working properly.
GE’s instruction: look the icemaker over to confirm it works as it should.
Older monitor-equipped models read the same code as an icemaker malfunction.
Clearing it from the display
Power off for a minute or two can sometimes wipe a code shown on the dispenser control panel. On newer refrigerators GE puts CI with the common codes that are less likely to need repair; even so, a few cases do need service.
Where the older wording comes from
Guide 49-6896 is an operations guide for an electronic monitor and diagnostic system. In it, CI is among four flashing codes and stands for an icemaker malfunction. Models TFJ30PF, TFJ28PF and TPJ24PF are the ones that section describes.
If CI will not go away, call (415) 729-2045 from San Francisco or the Bay Area. Have the model number ready along with how the icemaker has behaved. More is under refrigerator repair.
Model compatibility: GE reuses codes across series and model years, so CI may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
CI means the icemaker may not be working properly.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
