Error codeFF

FF at a glance
The temperature has climbed too high. GE’s single instruction for the code is to inspect the frozen food and see whether it has begun to thaw.
What the older guide 49-6896 says
On electronic monitor models covered by that guide, a blinking FF reports an unusually warm freezer compartment that has lasted a while (2-6 hours). It asks for these steps straight away:
Look for anything that is holding either the freezer door or the refrigerator door from closing all the way.
Keep door openings to a minimum, so the freezer compartment can cool faster.
Do not call for service until the unit has cooled, a process that may take several hours.
Turning off the light
Pressing the reset key on those models switches the FF light off. The system then goes on testing for other malfunctions.
Refrigerator repair in San Francisco and the Bay Area
If FF stays after the refrigerator has had time to cool, our refrigerator repair page covers GE refrigerators in San Francisco and around the Bay Area. Call (415) 729-2045 with the code, the model number and a note on what you saw when you checked the doors.
Model compatibility: GE reuses codes across series and model years, so FF may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
FF warns that the temperature is too high and frozen food may be thawing.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
