When a white 5.0 cu ft GE washer sits silent with an IE message, the cause is almost always upstream of the drum, at the faucets, hoses or inlet screens.
The GFW850SSNWW belongs to the 800 digits in GE’s front-load line, a white (WW) washer with a 5.0 cu ft drum and a current listing. The complaint we hear about it is plain: you press Start and nothing fills. On the display you may see H2O SUPPLY or IE. GE says either one means water is not entering the washer because of a pressure sensor issue or closed supply valves, and the washer locks you out for four minutes.
If the supply is on and the message keeps returning, GE tells owners to schedule service. We would not open the washer to look at its fill hardware ourselves, and we ask you not to either. Reference page: GE Washer H2O SUPPLY / IE code.
Many Bay Area washers sit in garages, where valves can be old, stiff, or partly corroded by salt air near the coast. A valve that turns only half way may restrict flow even though it feels open. If a valve will not turn easily, do not force it; tell us so the technician brings what is needed.
Unbalanced loads show UE, covered in GE Washer UE code, and a paused cycle that outlasts a day shows CAnCELEd. None is related to filling, but owners often confuse them because the washer stops in either case.
Give us the message, say whether other taps run normally, and send a photo of the model label. After a diagnosis you receive an itemized, written estimate. If you accept, we do the work; if not, nothing happens. Further reading: GE Washer Repair, GE Washers, how to describe a GE washer problem.

That water is not entering. Check both valves and the hoses; if all is open, the issue may be the inlet or a sensor.
No. Wait the four minutes and start again.
We cannot tell without looking. One hose or valve may be restricted, which a technician can confirm.
Both list 5.0 cu ft, but the feature digits and the finish differ.
