GE GDF465PGZWW Repair

Standing water, a gurgle that never ends or a drain code on a white GE front-control dishwasher is where most calls on this model begin.

About this model

Model overview

Standing water first

Most people looking up the GDF465PGZWW are staring at a few inches of dirty water in the bottom. That is a drain problem, and GE has four codes for it. C1 means the pump-out during drain ran longer than two minutes. C3 means the dishwasher will not drain. FTD, also written F56, is failure to drain. C5 is the opposite: pump-out time was too short. Read the code, then work from the sink side of the machine toward the tub.

The path the water takes

Water leaves through the pump, the drain hose, and either a high loop, an air gap on the countertop, or a connection on the garbage disposer. Each can fail on its own:

  1. The disposer inlet. On a new disposer installation a knockout plug must be removed, or nothing leaves the dishwasher. Run the disposer empty.
  2. The air gap. A small cap on the sink deck; lift it and rinse out the debris.
  3. The visible hose. Look for a crushed or kinked section behind the unit, especially after a remodel when the dishwasher was pushed back into place.
  4. The filter at the bottom of the tub, which holds food scraps and is explained in GE dishwasher filter cleaning and loading habits.

The checks for GE Dishwasher C1 code and GE Dishwasher FTD / F56 code are limited to the air gap, the hose and the disposer. We do not suggest opening any panel yourself.

Cutting power

For C3 GE suggests turning off the breaker for about thirty seconds, restoring it and resetting. If the code returns after that, the cause is in the pump, the drain line or a control, which needs diagnosis. See GE Dishwasher C3 code for the owner steps.

The model number

GDF is front-control, 465 is a feature level, ZWW ends in the WW white finish code. It is a current GE model; check the rating plate for the tub capacity. If your label reads differently, send us a photo; the models library helps you match it.

What to tell us

Say whether the water was there after every cycle or only after a heavy one, whether the disposer is used, and if you had a plumber near the sink recently. Water backing up into a kitchen sink at the same time is a house drain issue rather than a dishwasher fault. In older San Francisco flats where the sink drain is shared, that overlap is not rare.

Our visit is diagnosis, then a written estimate, then work only if you approve. The full family overview is in GE Dishwasher Repair.
