GE GDT655SMJES Repair

A slate-finish GE top-control dishwasher that leaks or throws a leak message needs the water source found before it runs again.

About this model

Model overview

A leak is a reason to stop

If you see water around the GDT655SMJES, stop the cycle, turn off the breaker and mop the floor before anything else. Water under a dishwasher can run into subfloor or the cabinet beside it, and in a San Francisco apartment it can reach the unit below. Do not run it again to see whether it leaks.

What GE says about leak messages

GE documents a LEAK DETECTED message: a possible leak was found, and on leak-detection models the cycle is cancelled. The suggested owner response is to contact service. That is different from a code such as C3, where the machine is simply not draining. The GE Dishwasher LEAK DETECTED code explains how to separate them.

Our post on water on the floor in front of a GE dishwasher goes through these cases in order.

Model notes

GDT means top-control: the buttons are on the upper edge of the door. Reading from the right, ES is the slate color code. The model is current; check the rating plate for the tub capacity. If the label shows other letters, it is another unit.

Before we arrive

Leave the breaker off if you saw active leaking. Take a photo of any wet spot and of the display. Tell us what the unit did first: fill, wash, drain. If the leak message appeared on a clean, dry floor, say so, because that changes how we look at the sensor side.

The plan stays simple: we diagnose, write up the estimate and wait for your yes. See GE Dishwasher Repair and the GE Dishwashers page for more.
