Dishes that come out cool, a dishwasher that waits forever to fill or a cup that never opens usually trace back to supply or the detergent cup on this GE.

About this model

Model overview

A supply-side look at the GDT665SFNDS

Where some dishwashers fail at the drain, a lot of trouble on a top-control GE like this one starts before the tub fills. The model number tells you what you own: GDT is top-control, 665 sits in the feature-level digits, and the closing letters DS are GE’s finish code for black slate. GE lists it as a current model. We have no verified tub size or cycle list for it, so we describe faults rather than specifications.

Fill problems

An H2O message means GE’s control saw too little water, or none, during fill. Three owner checks cover it: the hot water valve under the sink turned fully on, an inlet hose that is not kinked, and a dishwasher that stands level. If those are fine and the message returns, the inlet side needs a technician. Read GE Dishwasher H2O code before calling.

Cool water in the tub

C6 reports that water temperature is too low. GE’s owner guidance is that inlet water should be at least 120F; run the nearest kitchen faucet until it is hot, then start the dishwasher, and look at the water heater setting. In a building where the hot water comes a long pipe run from a shared boiler, the first water at the tap can be cold for a while. C7 is different: it says the temperature sensor circuit is inoperative, and the suggested steps are to cut power at the breaker for about thirty seconds, then reset. If it stays, we look at it. See GE Dishwasher C6 code and GE Dishwasher C7 code.

Detergent cup trouble

  • C8: the cup is blocked from opening fully. Remove whatever is in the way, such as a tall item in the top rack, latch the door and wait 30 seconds.
  • Cup Open: the cup is not closed. Add detergent, latch the cup shut and press Start.

Both are covered in GE Dishwasher C8 code and GE Dishwasher Cup Open code.

What not to do

Do not run a cycle repeatedly hoping a code clears; if the unit shows H2O or C6 three times in a row, stop. Do not open the lower access panel. An inlet valve and its wiring are not owner territory.

Visit notes

Tell us the code, the time of day it happens (a morning cycle may run on colder water), and how far the dishwasher sits from the water heater. Once the fault is pinned down, the price goes on paper first and work begins when you sign off. Related reading: GE Dishwasher Repair, GE Dishwashers and the error codes library.
