After a power cut, a tripped breaker or an interrupted cycle, a stainless GE dishwasher can show PF or C4 and refuse to carry on.
The GDT226SSLSS is a stainless-steel GE top-control dishwasher (SS in the finish position; GDT for top-control). It shares its first letters with several GE units, but the 226 digits in the middle place it lower in the feature range than the 600 series. GE lists it as current.
San Francisco’s older buildings and neighborhoods with occasional outages make this a more common story than you would expect: a cycle is running, the power drops, and the machine does not pick up where it left off.
| Display | Meaning | First step |
|---|---|---|
| GE Dishwasher PF code | A power failure has occurred | Select cycle and options again, press Start |
| GE Dishwasher C4 code | The machine filled twice after a power failure; a float switch may be stuck or the sump clogged | Touch Start then Cancel/Reset; tap the float cover; check the sump for debris |
| GE Dishwasher C2 code | Total pump-out cycle exceeded 7 minutes | Press RESET to silence the beep |
PF is the easy one. It is simply the machine telling you the power was interrupted. C4 deserves more care, because the double fill means water was added twice and the tub may now hold more than it should.
With the unit off, look into the tub for standing water and remove visible debris from the sump area at the bottom, like a label or a piece of glass. The float sits under a small cover; GE suggests tapping that cover to free a stuck float. Do not pull the float assembly out, and do not tilt the machine.
If the breaker trips whenever the dishwasher starts, stop using it and leave the breaker off. Shared kitchen circuits are common in older flats, so the dishwasher and a disposer or microwave on the same line can overload together, but we confirm that on site rather than guessing.
Write down whether the issue started after an outage, whether water was in the tub at the time, and what the display now shows. We diagnose, give you a written estimate, and wait for your go-ahead. For more on this family see GE Dishwasher Repair and the overview GE Dishwashers; find the label with finding your GE model number.

Not by itself. GE describes PF as a power failure indicator. Choose the cycle again and press Start.
The dishwasher may have filled twice, so there could be extra water in the tub, and a float or the sump may be the cause.
One reset is reasonable. If it trips again, leave it off and book a visit.
No. In GE's scheme these digits relate to feature level, not tub size.
